I just got home and noticed a deep cut between his eyes, but not on his eye. Should I add salt, and if so, how much? My tank is 135gal. Also should I add anything else like melafix, or just start with the salt. Tankmates are some polypterus, clown loaches, longnose gar, and a gulper cat.

I would add melafix as a preventative antibiotic and watch the fish closely for signs of infection over the next few weeks. If the wound does not appear to be healing or shows signs of infection I would add a broad spec antibiotic like tetracycline to the tank.

how big is the black and the CL? the gulper cat may make a meal with those... i've seen some of the pics here on mfk where someones gulper eats a back or something and same with the cls.... that tank is way over crowded btw
Thanks guys. I added salt and have been doing water changes to keep the water clean, and the cut is looking a lot better. The black is only 14", the gulper is about 5" and the CL's range from 3-6". I know I am risking the gulper eating the CL but they have been together for months with no problems. I do not think my tank is anywhere near being over crowded as the black is the largest fish in the tank.
I know that all of these fish cannot live in my 135g forever. I will soon be moving the gar and black into my 280g very soon.
