Recently I bought a deep sea rainbow cichlid from my local LFS. I've never seen one of these before but I am also new to cichlids so I payed $70 for it.

Now I can't find any information on them and was wondering if anybody here new anything about them or where I could get info on them.

I must stress this fish does NOT look like a regular rainbow cichlid. It is much longer and whitish/gray in color with black stripes. A bright blue shimmer has started showing through it as well.

Sorry, at first I couldn't figure out how to post a picture. Also philipraposo1982 philipraposo1982 I created a seperate thread as the question has changed, I am not concerned with the price anymore I paid what I paid, I am now more concerned about care, food and habitat needs. I don't in any way mean to sound "mean" or "snappy" I meant this is the most polite way, just explaining why I changed the thread.

definitely a lake Malawi hap of some sort. It looks like a half grown male starting to color up. It likes hard water, will be predatory and somewhat aggressive. It likes hard water about 75f, a little cooler than most fish. It will be a lot easier to ID when it colors up.

It's only about 2.5-3" rite now. Is there anything special to their diet I need to know about? I was told a 40 breeder would be good for him, however I wasn't sure because I couldn't find any info so I put him in a 60g.

It needs a meaty diet. Like I said, I don't know what kind of hap it is, but it is an open water fish. They range from chill to downright nasty and from 6 to 18 inches but 10 inches is normal. High ph is important if you want good color, say 8 would be good. Google Malawi hap and you'll find a whole new world of fishkeeping
