Defensive coloring

I'm amazed at how rapidly all 3 of my sunfish can change color depending on mood. My longear and redspotted were having discussions over turf today and both were showing strong vertical striping when being defensive. The redspot was showing dark vertical stripse, the longear lit up with light stripes.

Years ago my wife sent me a bromeliad plant and it was mounted on this little stump. The plant long ago died, but I love the piece of wood. I lay it on it's side and the roots radiate out
