Right... getting a new flat next month which is huge compared to this one... decided to go ahead with my plans for a brackish tank... I have an 80litre Sat round doing nothing currently so going to set it up. Filtration wise, what do I need? Stock wise I was thinking a breeding group of mollies and a puffer. Which one out of green spot and figure of eight can live in brackish all its life? What kind of salt do I need to use as well? And are there any brackish eels?

the puffer should be ok for the year. and mollies are always a great choice. filter wise i would go for a turn over rate of 10x. so in an 80L you should filter 800L per hour. you can do that with either a HOB filter, or a canister filter or a sump. i personally have a HOB filter, a canister filter, and i run a protien skimmer.

Ok thanks, think I'll go for a protein skimmer and a hob add that will be the least set up... trying to get this tank set up right - unlike what I managed with my first fresh tank (less than a litre with a common goldfish)...

if you are going to use a protein skimmer your SG needs to be atleast 1.010. but the higher the better. so if you plan on having your SG lower then 1.010, don't use a skimmer. i only started to use the skimmer 8 months ago when i finally got my SG to 1.012. well if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Wouldn't the puffer just demolish the mollies ?

Yes, but planning on getting a good breeding colony going first, then introducing the puffer... it may snack on some, but planning on some keeping my sh company as well...

Thanks for the info about the skimmer :) it's that kind of thing I have no clue on...

chances are the puffer will demolish the mollies but you never know. it may not, and besides that mollies can be pretty darn aggressive sometimes too. so you never know. i started with mollies, and they multiplied quickly. just be sure to provide places for the young fry to hide in, otherwise the adult mollies will eat them. you could also catch the fry in a net and raise them in a small breeder box. i ended up getting some knight gobies and a butis butis to keep my mollies population in check. lol.
