Hello everyone I am new here and just got my first monster fish! they are all growing out in a smaller tank right now. I have 3 bichirs currently.
1x albino senegal
1x ornate
1x delhezi

The ornate is actually the most greedy which I read they are usually less fast to eat. I must be lucky.

anyway the problem is, my senegal bichir seems to have little to no pectora fins. the fish snakes his way along, he eats and does just fine. but he has no fins to move around. will they grow back? I never noticed him swimming normally so I assume I brought him this way. what makes me wonder, is he was in a tank with lots of other senegals.

Would senegals bite off other senegals fin?

As I am new I thought I would share some pics of my new polys to you all

(you can seee he has no fins)

Very doubtful to grow back. Looks like it was born without the pec fins. Albino is a genetic defect and other in the animal are not uncommon. No nubs visable. If it made it this far, it should be ok, just make sure it gets to eat.

Yeah I had a feeling it was a genetic problem. he seems to get along really well. watched him eat lots of bloodworms about 10 minutes ago. he is a unique character the way he swims is very interesting. more like a ropefish.

I started the race post! Post yours bro! And nice polys!! Sorry about gimpy though, hope it does well!

Thanks! now he has a name. I think gimpy is good.

Just came to me! Glad I could help! And 2.5" ornate is a good start! I think yours would win the beauty contest if there was one! Hunt hint. Mine lacks the color yours does definitely!

Yeah mine might not keep his colours though. I've kept an ornate before and he never looked this good. I paid equivelent of abou 35 dollars for him. so even though he was quite expensive I felt that he was worth it, still can't seem to get him to come out in the open for a pic. the delhezi is being a camera hog. which is strange because until today he hid all day long.

Don't feel so bad, my local fish store is a rip off. But its the only place that can get fish I like when I want them. There is another 21 miles away but they don't ever get back to me when I email them a species. Even though that's their preceded way to see what they got! I tried to get a black devil wyckii catfish from them and they still haven't gotten back to me. Been three weeks. Don't even know if they can get me one yet. Lazy

That is pretty bad. I almost got an asian upside down catfish but figured I would wait until I have a bigger tank as I am looking to get one custom made.
I prefere to pay a little more, for something I know I really want, then having to settle for something similar.

I could have settled for a raphael catfish but I finally tracked down what I wanted "megaladorus uranoscopus aka the giant raphael catfish"

Those catfish are weird looking. I seen some today. I bought an upside down catfish turned out to be a African featherfin cat. Its jet black and eats everything off the bottom just like I wanted. My blue lobster kept eating my plants so I switched it up. I also have s bumblebee catfish the eats all my feeder fish fry! Pretty cool looking. I think I'm going to buy a Fluval desk aquarium for it and deck it out with wood rocks and live plants. they have a built in 24 led light system to I think! Would be cool for him considering he is 6 years old and still only an inch and half!!! Ill post pictures one day but he never comes out!
