Has anyone seen a deformity like this in bichirs? I got this guy for dirt cheap knowing that there is a low chance of survival, but I was curious to know if this is an issue anyone has dealt with. The gill plates seem intact and whatever this is appears to be vascular with red veins running through it. It does affect how this fish swims.
There is a thin film over this, and the gills do seem extremely red. External gills are still intact, but the animal does open and close the mouth to breathe.
The back of the animal is perfect straight and this fish has no problems other than this obviously not welcome convex structure. If this can't be fixed and the animal can't eat, I will euthanize. This is maybe a 2 inch fish.
