Just came across these photos of a redtail catfish for sale on Petlink. What seems to be wrong with its face? Is it a birth defect or something to do with a harsh life? Its for sale for $750.00 which is about normal price for a redtail of that size in Australia for a good conditioned fish.
Any ideas of the problem?

looks like a serious birth defect. Doesn't look like healed injury

I agree, I can see how the top may be a healed injury (ex: dropped on head ) but that doesnt explain the bottom jaw. Plus it looks to be symmetric. I would agree birth defect. I kinda feel sorry for the big guy :(. He deserves a good home.

I agree.

Seriously....I do not think it is worth a dime...Not $750, no way....

Bahahahahahah!!!!!!! Thats the funniest fish I've ever seen. I just lost in on the 3rd photo. Sorry to laugh at it, but , you know.
I wouldn't pay any more then a few hundred bucks for it.

might be a good rtc to get as it won't be able to eat everything else in the tank, lol, but, yeah, looks like a genetic defect to me

Awww, it's cute! And it won't be able to eat any other fish!

From where I am from, you will notice that deformed monsters go for practically feeder price.....MOst poeple I know will cull specimen like that from a spawn and use as feeders or bait.....And if they do make it to the size as pictured above, it would sell for less than $50(americn)...HOw does it eat?!?!?I am thinking it makes great worm slurper....lol
