hi i am trying to get a fish room going in the basement. i am worried about the humidity the room is only 16'x12' or potentially it could expand to 24'x12' the door to the room is two 3' bi folds. i am really starting to worry about humidity levels. i am going to have a 300 gal rubber maid and possibly more than one still deciding on lg tanks or ponds because i keep sting rays. what ever i decide to do i know there is going to be a large volume of water in the basement and therefore humidity level will be well above 50%. i don't think a dehumidifier will cut it. has any one seen a ez breathe it is some type of dehumidifier that exchanges air i think? anyway i can get one for about cost. so if it is effective should be worth it. i think a air exchanger connects to your ac and i do not have central air. any experience would be great.

thanks
John

A portable dehumifier should handle the job fine,. I wouldn't worry about the humidity going up to 50%, but it could get way over that and then you end up with condensation and mould. The small room D/Hs work fairly well if the room is warm and the humidity is high

Other option would be to rig up a duct and fan to blow nice dry air from your attic space down to the fish room and then vent the humid air outside. But thats probably a LOT more work than plugging in a D/H ;)

Well fitting covers on your tanks will cut down on the moisture loss too if most of the evaporation condenses and drips back into the tank.

A lot depends on your climate too, where I live the humidity avarages about 80%. I use a D/H to keep the house down around 60-70, 50% feels like the sahara desert to us :D

Cheers
