Do i need a dehumidifiers in my basement with a 265 gal and possible 55 in the future. i do have a basement drain that i can hook it up to oh and my basement is finished with moisture resistant drywall but the wood is not.

I would use one if you don't have any ventilation

just my furnace/ac intake they are pricey and i didn't know if i really needed one what could happen if i don't get one. (sorry i dont mean to sound stupid)

Possible mold/mildew and health problems! I would get a humidity gauge 1st though and see what % humidity you have 1st in the basement and then in the rest of the house. Does the basement stay warm or cool? If it stays cool you may have a problem with moisture accumulation.

You should probably keep one in the basement even without a tank. I've always kept one in my basements because there is almost always moisture down there anyways, especially finished. You can have mold growing behind the walls. I get a few gallons a week out in moisture in my basement, and it shows no signs of moisture on the walls which I think thats where it comes from because of the moisture in the ground outside the walls. My parents finished basement has some kind of dehumidifier thats got a hose hooked up behind the sheetrock to collect the moisture, one each side of the basement and they drain back outside.

defumidifiers are a good idea for basement setups

it seems like a good idea its really humid in ky ne ways plus i live in a wet land kinda part of the area. i do have a sump that pumps out side but that don't control the moisture in the air.

It sounds like you should have one tanks or not. They cost a few hundred dollars, but it will keep your basement much more pleasant.

Yes my parent's have one in their basement [with no fish unfortunately] and theirs drains outside much like an A/C compressor would. It was installed when they redid their heating system.
