We haven't had psittacus fry since 2008 or 2009, since we lost the male in our breeding pair. This past year, we have gotten all of our psittacus back together: 3m/3f in a 600-gallon tank. The female from the previous successful spawns has paired off with another male, and they are currently defending half of the tank. The fry have been free-swimming for a few days now. I'm not sure we'll be able to save any, but it's still exciting. It's also not bad advertising, since we're trying to sell all of our fish before a cross-country move.

Awesome sight! My tank-raised group came from you via another person, I think. If you do save some, I wouldn't mind raising out a couple.

Come to think of it, my Krobia xinguensis came from you via Ken Davis. We seem to have a similar taste in SA cichlids. :D

Small world! This spawn was surprising for a couple of reasons: it had been a long time, and we're trying to cut back, not breed! I'll let you know if any of the fry can be saved. Right now, they serve the purpose of allowing me to identify the pair. I'm afraid that if I don't manage to get a divider into the tank, or separate the parents in some way, they'll just become part of a group again, once the fry are gone.
