I'm about to buy a 6" albino senegal and a few weeks after, a similiar size delhezi but will they get along?
are they territorial fish and do the delhezi and senegal swim in the same column?

(i thought i read about bichirs hating others of the polypterus family, but i could have mis-read.)

nope, your del and sen should get along just fine provided one is not grossly larger than the other.

For the most part, all polys mix well. However once in a while you will come across an individual that will be particularly territorial (like my female ornate).

My female protects the upper levels of the driftwood as hers, and will bite my other polys if they get too close, yet other times, she doesn't seem to care if there are other polys hanging out with her. :screwy:

oh you scared me when i saw the first word in that sentence.lol

good to hear, they'll probably be the size, even if it's off, only about an inch.

i was just worried that the senegal(which i'm getting first) will take over a territory and kick the delhezi out.

when do you feed your bichirs? they kind of have this "nocturnal" look

Right now I have big and small polys mixed with no problems. IME, keep them all well fed and they don't really cannibalize (even cross species) unless they're really hungry.

I have a 4" albino sen and delhezi in the same tank as a 12" endli :screwy:

I feed during the day so that they get used to being active during the day.

Agree with you. Keep them well fed. I have all species accept palmas. Cannot find them at my place. Be sure don't put small, example 1 inch with the >5 inch. They definitely will eat them. I fed mine twice a day, during morning and before night.

many sites say that polys dont get along.
not true.
ive never seen any cannabalize until i got the lap.
my endli is the biggest or than the lap and never ate any other polys,
even when they were about 1 quarter of his size.
but my lap, only about an inch larger than the endli, ate a small ornate. :(

thanks for the responses.

once they get tame, will the come to the surface to feed?(or hand-feed)
i'm gonna probably have to take my pacu and tinfoil barbs out since most of my bottom feeders don't get a single crumb left because of them vacuum cleaners.lol

what part of the water are senegals and delhezi active in? or are they bottom grazers?
