I have in front of me a 5x2x2 tank, completely empty, now I have a Delhezi and an albino Senegalus in a 55g tank while I get this one ready for them. I want the Tank to be planted so looking for advice on plants, but also want some advice on possible tankmates, I have a couple of ropefish in mind, but worried they might get a bit long to be comfortable in there one day and I won't be able to upgrade the tank any further. and i like the look of the tiger dats, but the wifey and kids want a bit more colour so any suggestions there would be a real help too. if not the colour can be added briefly in the form of feeders from another tank.
thanks in advance.

I like that idea, could be a bit pricey though, another one I liked was the red tail barracuda, I'm guessing a discus wouldn't appeal to them either, because of the body shape.

I personally would not add Discus, polys are too active during the night probably would stress out the discus. The plants I recommend in low light are Java Fern, Anubias, Java Moss.:)

same 3 plants I keep coming back to, but I want some tall viney plants of some sort too. I do like the pink tail chalceus too, but they like to be in groups of six or more and I think a 5ft would be too small for that many if you guys think otherwise they might be the answer.

It is a good sized tank and you can do a lot with it. The 24" width is great and opens up a lot of possibilities even if it is only five feet. A small group of ropes should work out well.

another thing I want to do, is glue some acrylic shelves onto the inside back glass, I've got some HA6 sealant which should work but the plan was to have some sort of moss or hanging plant on these shelves to give some more shaded areas, would java moss be any good for this or would it be too slow growing, or are there any suggestions on suitable alternatives? I've got these images in my head of what I want the tank to look like when it's done, but don't have the knowledge to do it without asking all these silly questions.

From what i've heard acrylic and glass dont hold well long term. I found some suction cup type of hides awhile ago also check out www.univeralrocks.com they have lots of different things

What about a pink tail chalceus, someone told they are good schooling fish and i think they are in the family tree with barracudas.
Pink tail Chalceus or cudas would be fine for schooling. Stay top water. Yes they are characins.
