Can someone give me their experience in how their delhezi behaved? I dont want a dud that sits at the bottom of the tank all day. Are they pretty active in your experience? thanks

Let me give you an example: When I feed krill, the Delhezi doesn't seem very interested. But then he sees other fish enjoying a meal and investigates. Then he goes and finds a monster clown loach carrying a piece of krill, and fights him for it. Spunky. I highly recommend these fish, I absolutely love mine.

If you're looking for a bichir, specifically an highly active one, your best bet is a senegalus.

My retro, endli's, and del all like to chill until it's feeding time. But my albino senegal is constantly roaming the tank, the way the cichlids do.

They are most active when surrounded by active fish, if that makes sense. When their tankmates are senegals or pollis (IMO the most active two species) they are just as active. When they are with lazy lower jaws, they behave like them. I'd list them as my third most active, with senegals and p. pollis first.

Makes sense to me, my del is with many active fish, and behaves accordingly!
