I hope that their is a delhezi bichir at my newly found lfs when I go their on Wensday (closed Tuesdays.) I need to know if a 55 gallon is big enough for him for life. Will be in current 55 until the other 55 is up and running. Then should be transferred over.

Yeah a del would be fine in a 55g. Personally, I'd add a sen and a polli or two as well.

Just make sure you have setup a system that can handle that though.

Is this a standard 55? aka either 12 inches in width or 14 inches (I cant remember)

and don't dels get max size around 14 inches? Not to mention birchirs seem to have a terrible turn radius.

so, I think 55 gallons of water is fine for life.. but not at those dimensions bc it would be as wide as the fish would be at max size. It would work for most of its life though probably.. maybe be a little cramped though

If thats the case then could I add my senegal, peacock eel,and african knifefish in with the mix.

I don't know the max size of fw eels or the african knifes sorry... just use good judgment.

Ultimately, your system will tell you if it can handle that load or not.

But remember, when it comes to aquariums... bigger is always better. :)

Thanks for your guys help and will move the my senegal, eel, and knifefish in once the delhezi I hopefully get gains some size. Do you think that the senegal would be able to move in the same time as the delhezi is added.

What are the sizes on the bichirs? If a similar size and you have adequate hiding places, moving them in at the same time might be a good idea

55 come in the following dimension.
55R 36 x 18 x 20
55S 48 x 13 x 20
55H 36 x 15 x 24

In your case 55 standard would probably work best since delhezi need long tanks to swim and delhezis are actually one of the more active bichirs so they will move around a lot. Unlike endli the delhezi is more flexible as far as turning while it's swimming. Delhezi have a better turning radius than endli so I say 55standard should be fine for delhezi. I have yet to see a 14" delhezi. My biggest delhezi is at 11.5" right now.

The bichir is very peaceful and 7" no aggression even towards an 2.5" cory
