Hey I am new to this forum :)

I am going tomorrow to my fish store, and I was planning on buying a Delhezi Birchir and I was wondering what type of food would be best to start it off on?
I am going to ask a person there but I figured people are idiots and I would rather make sure I know whats what from actual fish people than from some teenager at a fish store.
Also, they are about 5-6in long right now..
Should I just get one? Or can I get two...
I have a 140 gal tank he is going to go in.
There is one gold pleco and about 10 platy (yes I know he will probably eat them in a little while)
I will be watching the pleco and making sure he doesn't mess with my new baby(s)
I dont know what else I want to get to put in there or if I should just leave it as it..
I am getting ready to make a few "caves" and stuff so it can feel comfortable until it gets used to the new tank.
ANY KNOWLEDGE WOULD BE HELPFUL!

Thx.

There is a sub-forum for bichirs here

They like Hikari Sinking Pellets. You can get 2 in a 140g, no problem. I would suggest removing the gold pleco because it would eventually sneak up onto your babies when you ain't watching.

Okay I am gonna check out the sub-forum.

Really? Could it seriously hard the bichirs? He is very small only about 2 1/2 inches or so.

They wont defend themselves?

Ill look into getting some other cat to put in there for cleaning.. any recommendations?
I heard the Raphael are good..?

your pleco should be your scavenger

make sure you do weekly water changes. "cleaners" will help eat uneaten food, but they will poop out what they eat

Mine did fine with plecos also, I had a royal and 3 sunshine plecos. I fed massivore, shrimp and tilapia. Shrimp was $2.99/lb and tilapia was around the same price also at a markdown store. That alone is a few months or more worth of feedings for a bichir and a carnivorus pleco.

I cleaned up the tank and made some hiding space for them until they get used to it.
I am really excited about these guys, I havnt had any cool fish in quite a while! Is there a thread that can show me how to sex them so I can look and see tomorrow when I buy them.
I will just see what happens with my pleco he isnt big and he only gets feisty when I put a lettuce core in the tank.
Should I get any other fish to go with ? I know they are going to chow on my platies when they calm down

bichirs usually do well with just about anything that won't fit in their mouth and anything that wont fit them in their mouth lol, i wouldnt risk the pleco but that's just me.

could try fish like an african brown knife, african leaf fish, they do pretty well with SA cichlids usually as well (at least the less aggro ones) - severums are a good choice in that department

There shouldn't be much to worry about with your Pleco and Poly choices. I haven't had any problems with my Plecos and Bichirs. My theory is possible that the Plecos will suck on the slim coats when there isn't enough food and if the Bichir is a "lazier" type like most lower jaw species. Delhezi are pretty active, so you shouldn't have any issues with the Pleco.

i would recommend brine shrimp and sinking pellets. definitly sinking pellets. Don't get hikiri pellets. They have msg and can make ur del friggin addicted to that stuff plus it's expensive. also never feed ur new fish feeder fish cuz it can make ur del aggresive and can intruduce nasty paracited in ur precious fish.
