I picked up a new 3" delhezi on the 24th, and did not notice anything wrong with him at all. He was a bit skinny, but had great colour, erect fins, and ate in the store. At home the first night he ate a small school of young guppies and a couple of earthworms. (The guppies are 2nd generation that I've had for a long time, all healthy) He ate a half dozen more the next day as well. This wasn't exactly his planned diet, but I wasn't too chuffed about it either.

This evening I noticed that the delzehi has an inflamed anus, with 2-3 small red worms sticking out approx 1/16". Looks very much like that posted at http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2261699&postcount=11 His feces have not been white / stringy, in fact have been dark (almost black) and solid. That seemed par for the course having been eating earthworms.

No pics as my camera is not able to focus that closely.

I've added Jungle Parasite Clear. Active ingredients: praziquantel, N-[[94-Chlorophenyl) amino) carbon]-2, 6-difluorobenzamide; metronidazole; acriflavine.

The del is actively eating, chomping 2 large worms tonight. He has become a bit listless though, and is hanging around on top of a submersible heater.

Recent water change on the 25th, with water params normal.

There is a TT eel in the tank for the past year that exclusievly eats earthworms / guppies. He is fine, as are the guppies, so the del must have brought this with him. The TT is still to small to transfer to the main tank.

In course with the JPC, I'm going to try some fresh garlic as well, just not sure how that will work with an eathworm. Suggestions?

Has anyone encountered this? Any ideas on treatment options?

your treatment is fine -Anne

soak the worm in the garlic juice or if you're friends with a vet see if they will give youa syringe and fairly large needle and inject the worm with the garlic juice

Thanks Anne. Tonight's menu will include worm in garlic sauce.

Is this fairly common in bichirs? Is it likely to be fatal?
