I recently picked up a Del, and it is about 4-5" smaller than the Senegal is is going to live with.

Due to this I put it in a breeding net to keep it separate while I fatten it up and grow it out a bit.

Since I have done this I have noticed that it is rubbing its head against the sides of the net and wearing away at its nostril thingys.

Will these grow back, or will I just have a Del that doesn't have them? I feel horrible for damaging a fish, but I'd still rather have a nostril-less Del than a dead Del in my Sen's stomach.

I will be moving it from the net once it eats the 15 feeder guppies that are in there with it, and hope that it has enough size to actually get food and not be food.

get rid of the guppies... there not good for them if there are feeder... and get the del it own tank to growout in...

Can you recommend a better feeder? I can't get it to eat anything but live and it shows no interest in Ghost shrimp or Blackworms. The guppies are coming from a good source so they should be disease free, and I feed them well.

Alternately, can someone recommend any type of fish I can get from the grocery store to try and feed it? My Sen took to pellets right away, I wish this guy had done the same.

^ agreed

You can do feeder guppies, but quarantine them for a week or two first to make sure none are sickly. It's probably better off if that's your only choice to buy healthy non feeder guppies (will be more expensive), maybe small silver sides, etc. You can also try Tilapia strips from the grocery store.

I feed mine pellets, shrimp (have extra from the grocery store) and beef heart mostly. Staple is the pellets. I stopped with feeders after an outbreak of a nasty infection that killed off a few of my fish. I would NOT recommend feeders unless you breed them yourself.

It might just take time for your new guy to take the pellets. It's been over a month and just today my little endli finally ate some pellets for the first time. He didn't eat at all for 3 weeks, then occasionally the grocery store shrimp (cut to size). Don't give up!

I would use stronger smelling pellets. Either Hikari carnivore or NLS Thera A.
If that fails, then they will almost always love some nice earth worms. Just make sure the worms aren't to fat for the bichir.

given time he will eat what you put in front of him, but being in a small net might be the problem put him in a grow out or even a 10gl if you have to
yup

either del or sen, they will accept pellets, mine would eat both sinking and floating pellets.
