Hello all

Starting to think of new tank mates for my senegal for when I get my new 4 foot tank. There a one of both of the above strains of poly in my lfs - was just wondering what the differences are?

Both stunning to look at but are there personality differences? And which do you more experienced birchir keepers prefer???

is it a 55 or a 75 or 120. 4 feet tanks come with a variety of depths.

But IME, id go with the del.
i have an ornate around 8 inches, and hes a lazy bum just kinda hiding sitting somewhere all day. My del around 4 inches loves to cruise around. Ornates can get around 2 feet with the del reaching around 14 inches. So depending on the size of your tank, id go with the del.

if i had to choose one or the other i'd pick a del because i like more activity in my tank. ornates are generally considered to be a more striking looking bichir. basically it depends on your tastes and what you want though.

The tank will be 21" deep, 18" wide, which I think makes it a 75. Did not realise Ornates went to 2'!!! How big do Senegals get?

Definitely a Del... He'll cruise around your tank, and you can see him a lot more than the "lazy" Ornate..

Sens max out at about 12".

Get a bunch of dels, senegals, and polli palmas for that tank. You'll love watching those guys cruise around. Ornates are lazy and can be very aggressive at smaller fish when it's 14"+.

Although a tank full of poly's does appeal, I was after some mid and top water swimming fishes to share the new pad.... Was thinking of the senegal, maybe a del and then......??...who knows?!!

just get a bunch of senegals if you dont wanna use your cash on other species. :D
theyre fun and make a great sight in the tank.
