I have 60 gallons with 1 ropefish, 10 rosy barbs, 6 Giant Danio, a rainbow and bristlenose plecos. I thought that I couldn't get any bichirs because they would to big/long for the tank however the bichirs I was looking at were ornatipinnis. Recently, I have found that delhezis only grow to around 30cm :nilly:

I have read some sources online and they have said 60 gallons are adequate for a Delhezi bichir. I just need to make sure they won't kill my barbs and danios.

Thanks,

If either the Rosy Barb's or Giant Danio's can fit in the Delhezi mouth then I wouldn't recommend putting a Delhezi in the aquarium. Polypterus also lurk at night so if a resting fish is at the bottom at may get nipped.

The delhezi would be 8 cm when I get it and the Rosy Barb's are quite fat and about 7 cm long.

Itll be fine in the beginning. Later on the late night snacks will be happening.

My dels ate my giant danios. Later they were nipping the fins of my Congo tetras. I wouldn't recommend it if you want to keep the rosy barbs or the danios. Other then that I love my dels just picked up a baby at about 1.5" a couple months ago it's already 3". Growing fast and eating from my hand.

Alright then, I won't get them, even though how cute they are.

Guys, since I need to get this out of my mind, in your experience how big to senegalus bichirs grow, can they be kept in 55 gallon and with rosy barbs and giant danio.

Tks

I'd say a senegal is a much better choice, just watch the growth long term. It may well end up being big enough to snack on rosy barbs but it'll take a while to get there, giving you options to reshuffle :)

Yes a captive bred Senegal and albino Senegal can live in a 55 gal for a very long time if not for life. U don’t see many of those get over 9-10” some don’t even get that big
