Yo. As some of you may know, Megalops Cyprinoides (Indo-Pacific Tarpon) are distributed quite widely within the Indo-Pacific region. I happen to live in and around the area of their distribution, so obtaining one wouldn't be too much of an issue.

My issue, though is their mouth size. I have never seen the magnitude of what these guys can munch on. So if someone could give me a hint as to whether or not these guys can munch on a Delhezi would be helpful, as I've gotten a newfound love for Dels. Yes, I know Tarpon get big, so the hypothetical scenario involves a 2-3 foot Tarpon and a 12-16 inch (Do dels get to this size?) Del.

Tarpons do best in brackish and saltwater (as far as I know, correct me if i'm wrong). Polypterus is pure freshwater. I think a tarpon would have no problem glupping up a poly. My option not good tank mates. 13-14 max is more likely for a Del, might get a little larger not much.

I've seen a lot of Tarpon acclimatized to Full Fresh. However, I've seen few of the true monsters in Freshwater setups.

And again, I'm not talking about the 5-8 foot monsters. My concern is whether or not a three footer can turn full-grown del into a meal.

to be the answer simply: yes, it would have absolutely no problem putting a slender polypterus in it's stomach

I have a friend who is from australia and he fishes for them a lot. Hes never gotten one in freshwater over a foot and a half. However they have a big mouth and so could probably swallow something half their length but a big del might just not fit.

even at the same size i can see there being problems. Even at 2 feet a tarpon can swallow a tennis ball. I see no reason he couldnt chow down a poly. But ive never heard of a tarpon staying in freshwater for there whole life. I Knew the could handle it when small but ass the grow i thought they needed to be in salt?

I'll say no

Not worth the risk
