well ive had my delhezi bichir for about a month, grew an inch since i bought him.

He's been very healthy and everything.

Today when i was looking at him, i noticed something a bit above/next to his gills... it looks exactly like one of those "rami-gill stalks" that axolotls have.

is that possible? and im pretty sure delhezi bichirs dont have that.

It's not uncommon for small/juvenile polys to have external gills, how large is it? I've heard of a few occasions where water parameters have forced polys to revert to external gills but I have no idea if those claims are true or not, hope a more experienced keeper can shed some light on this.

I know it's common for endlis, congis, delhezi, and weeksii all commonly have external gills.

Also check this out, a couple pics of a del with external gills pretty late into maturity.

its about 5 inches, and i see. thats kinda odd since my other bichirs dont have those.

My delh still has it's external gills. But it was shorter compared to the first month I started having him.
Had em for like 4 months.

Usually being shipped and handled so much from the farm to the store they retract their gills out of stress, but once relaxed in an aquarium, they often reemerge, just to disappear in a few months. My del had them up until 6 inches, they will probably go away in a month or two.
