Apparently cownose are becoming an increasing problem for fishermen in Maryland and Virginia. I suspect this is because we've effectively wiped out most of the cownose's natural predators, leaving them to breed extensively.

On a side note, I have three more coming in next week.
I'm curious on how they taste, fishy or something completely different? Maybe I'll have to order a couple of wings!

Coming from a reputable dealer that supplies to public aquariums (including Zoodiver). They came highly recommended, and the woman knows her stuff. I have 2 females and 1 male sub-adult coming in. They've been QT'd at her facility for 3 weeks.

cool

supposidly rays taste like scallops. We have them at DC where I used to work and I would be in the pool sometimes talking to guests and they would talk about it and thats what they told me. If you ever buy bags of scallops from the store...pay attention to their size if they are extremely large...its possible they may not be scallops.. but something else. I haven't run into it yet. I don't think I could eat one though. On another note... They did an ecology study on fishing, ray abundance as well as scallop abundance off the east coast and found that it's not fishing but its just a natural cause or something.

Anywho cool pick up's I love cownose rays =]

They sell ray and scallops at my local Asian market - they look NOTHING alike. I've always been tempted to try the ray fin, but... um... it doesn't look appetizing. Picture a triangular frisbee, made mostly of ray skin.

^what scallops do you eat? Never had one that tasted like that... the ones in FL are pretty good =p but really to each their own =] I hate eating raw snot.... (oysters)
