hey guys, I got 4 demasoni about two weeks ago and they are doing fine except two of them aren't eating like the others. Usually when I approach the tank they all rush to the top to be fed. 2 of the demasoni just hide instead. they eat pieces that pass by sometimes but they are not eating as much as the rest. I read that mbunas should always look "hungry". I don't know what the problem is. the parameters are fine filteration is 1 xp2 and a tetra 60 power filter(will be switching this with a xp2 or 3 in the future). THe temp is steady nitrites and amonia are at zero. They are not being bullied two much.

anybody know what's wrong with my fish?

ps: they are all about 2-3inches long

I'm almost positive it's aggression related. Most guys who have success with demasoni have at least 10-12 in a tank. They are nasty but beautiful mbuna.

Ditto... Are they getting harrassed? Tankmates?

I have 25 give or take and you can see the dominant ones and the smaller ones are usually last to eat. They should do fine and hopefully like mine will all eventually eat.

they are getting harrased but not by the other demasoni. They are mostly harrassed by my dominant red zebra. I haven't seen them being bullied too much tho...atleast no more than the other fish:D

Try to add in some more caves for them to hide. I would definitely look at increasing the number of Demasoni in your tank.

also, what i do to make sure everyone eats, is feed once in the morning and once at night before i shut the light, so the less dominant fish get some food too

I wouldn't worry too much about them not eating. I have a tank of 20 something and they all always look pretty healthy. The one's you think aren't eating probably are. I noticed that some tend to be more of the scavenger type or the last in line if you would want to say it that way.

But I would have to agree to try and get at least 2-3 more in the tank to sort out any aggression issues.

As long as the water parameters are good Id say its an aggression issue.Demasoni have a reputation as hard to keep fish but they arent. You do have to pay attention to stocking though.Like the others said youll have a better chance of sucess with a group of at least 12
