hi, i have a 55g demasoni only tank that has 11 dems in there 5 adults and 6 smalls. They bite big bunks out of each others tails. I was wondering if i added 5 more smalls do u think it would stop it? They have only been in the tank for about 1 1/2 weeks
The smalles are 1 1/2-2" lmk please

The juvies are probably too small to come in the adults radar...you'll probably have to increase adult numbers since dems are notoriously hostile.
You could also try to take out the hyper aggressive male in another tank if thats an option, and put him back in after a few days. But this doesn't always work though.
It'll be a numbers/density thing in the end imo...

Agreed.

In my opinion, more is better with demasoni's. Due to their conspecific-aggressive nature fin nips may be a near ever-present occurance, however the larger the group the smaller the chance that the nipping will lead to worse injuries or elimination.

Also, because of their nature, removing the most aggressive demasoni will create a power vaccum which will be filled (usually) by the next dominant demasoni in the tank. This can actually increase aggression because the group size becomes smaller with the removal.

I've been told to move the decor around because it "resets" the dominance hierarchy.

I also read somewhere that there should be AT LEAST one hiding spot per fish. ideally a little more.

Dont quote me on it though. Just what i've heard.
can anyone confirm this ?

Hope this helps
