Demasoni Tank Help?

Hi,

In about a two weeks, i will be recieving about 12 demasoni, they are 1-2 in. I have the decor picked out, but I don't know if I should use freshwater sand, or gravel? Which of these do you think Demasoni, or cichlids in general would prefer? Also, what color sand/gravel would bring out the color of the cichlids? Please let me know.

you should do the classic holey rock theme with sand what color sand is up to you. but i would do black sand and black background. show tank for sure

Cichlids in my experience prefer sand. I have been switching all my tanks over to it. What color is up to you. Darker sand may bring their color out more.

being that they are blue and black... too much black and they will be overly dark and not show much blue... black ground fine

Definitely go with sand. The Mbuna love to dig around in it and create spawning sites.

Mike D. might be rite, but i have 12 demasoni in a all black decor and their colors seem to really pop, as they grow there colors may change from better to worse with my decor who knows? you should really test and see which substrate works for you.

ps: the only downside is its hard spotting these little frys with the tank lights off lol
