Would a 20 gallon tank be big enough to hatch and raise dempsey fry?If my pair lays eggs I want to try and hatch them away from the parents.

Well, you can grab the 20 or thirty best looking fry and just raise those. Then you'd be fine for awhile.

A 20g would be fine for a month or so. Not big enough for the parents, but for 1/2" fry that is a ton of room. After that do what Knifegill said and cull them down to around 20 of the best looking ones.

That is what I had intended to do DJ.Just temporary, larger tank when needed,no parents, but I do know someone who says they remove the female with the fry and puts them in a seperate tank for a few weeks then returns her back into the original tank.
