Hey guys, new to this site and relatively new to cichlids also. Other than a breeding colony of convicts I had a couple of years back I haven't had any SA cichlids. My issue is this week after cycling my tank I introduced a blue acara 5cm and a jack Dempsey 4cm into my 55 gal tank. Now there are plenty of caves and drift wood for both of them but my Dempsey gets chased behind the filter everytime he comes out to explore. I thought he would be fine as I've heard they are able to fend for themselves well but this acara has a nasty streak. Is there Nything I can do other than remove the acara to help the jack?

what is the size difference between the two?

also, keep in mind that Dempseys are noted for being skittish, especially in new tanks . . .

I have noticed that the very edge of the acaras tail is a tinge of orange and from my research only the terrors get an orange edging on the tail. Could that be it? I bought some small feeders today and hope the acara will vent his anger on them. Thanks for the help!!
