Sometime over the last 24-36 hours my Dempseys laid eggs. Was not expecting it as they are 2.5 to 3 inches max, and that may be a generous measurement. I did a little research once I saw them but is there anything else I need to know? Never had a fish lay eggs so have no experience. Here is a pick of the eggsuploadfromtaptalk1393193763309.jpg

Your Dempsey's will most likely get very aggressive, keep an eye on your other fish if you have any :) other than that, Dempsey's are pretty good parents and will do most of the work for you until the fry get to a size where they have to be moved.

I moved just about everyone else out as soon as I saw it, except for the ones I couldn't get to without worrying about disburbing the eggs. I'm glad dempseys are good starter parent fish. I've had them a lot in the past but this is my first that ever had eggs. I am not getting my hopes up since they are so young, but they are doing a good job protecting so I am crossing my fingers

It is a awesome experience when your fish spawn in your aquarium, IMO that shows that you are doing a great job:D

Thanks for the nice words. Well, a majority of them were eaten. Some started turning white late last night and they were gone this morning as well as probably 80-90% of what was there. There are still probably 15 to 20 eggs on the driftwood that haven't turned white. What are the odds anything happens with them? I really was not expecting much since the parents are so young and small, but it's still disappointing.

They might not do that well on first try, but dont be disheartened :D usually the parents get it right after a bit of practice, and will spawn again before long
