I have both dendros and balanos my balanos are starting to open up with the lights on (not all the heads open and I spot feed during the day to help them open up) and they both open up beautifully at night. How can I get them to open up during day time? And I got one hell of a deal on both I paid about $50 for my balanos (about 15+ heads) and $25 for the dendros (with about 13-15 heads)! But how do I get them to open during day? Should I put them somewhere dimly lit in the tank and then bring them out toward the light over time?

What exactly are you feeding these corals? You "should" be heavily feeding these on phytoplankon and supplimented with zooplankton...

They are not light dependant, have no zooxanthellae.

Gotta say, they are certainly not the easiest of corals too look after.

oops..to add...balanophyllia

These do prefer slightly subdued lighting, although, again, do not havezooxanthellae. They are commonly found in the wild under overhangs.

Feed on brine and plankton...It will also catch its food via its tentacles when you do a normal tank feed..

Sorry forgot to add those i feed them the same way I feed my blue maxima, spot feed with phyto and oyster feast is that ok? Can I give them silver sides too as a treat?
