Got him about half a month back... when i got him he seems fine, until not so long ago i find him developing ''a bend'' on his body... i know this is not an immediate threat but seeing the recent post on these conditions(the post with the autopsy pics) seems like its going to die sooner or later...:(
need some advice: should i keep him or let him go?? this is freaking depressin' me..

Is he having trouble swimming/eating?

I had a senegal once just like that. I think its spine curvature. Just to confirm, he can only turn right and not left? It won't die as long as he can eat and swim. Well mine died, but because it jump out of the tank when I forgot to put the lid back on....

Don't let him go yet.

Yup, he can swim and eat alrite... he can even muscle my endli away for pellets(strong little fella) erm... no problem swimming left or right... ya... suppose im gonna keep him and see how things go...

Hmm, if he can turn both ways, it isn't so bad. Mine was bended until it could only turn right and have to swim an entire round to get to the left. Managed to keep it alive for 1 month before the fateful incident. Was still munching happily the previous day. :(

As strange as it might seem, i have one exactly like that, he is in good shape, and im so sorry for the condition that has befallen yours, Personally, i would keep him if he is showing no signs of serious pain, or discomfort. I know its hard, but when we take on the responsibility of being a fishkeeper, its like being a parent kind of, and we just have to live with what comes, and do the best we can with the fish, for better or worse. Again...Sorry :(
thx, Nativefishkeeper... guess just hav to let stuff unfolds and see how things go...

Sorry for your loss. When i lost mine a few years ago i felt the same way..

Hope he gets better.
btw, has anyone seen a full sized albino (ie 12 inches)?
I've had mine for 6 months and its barely grown at all compared to my other bichirs

For one thing that I know about albino anything(ie- bichir,pelco,etc...)
Due to lack of melanin or something they do grow slower...

i have a trio that i purchased 2-3 months ago and their growth rate doesn't seem any slower than my other sens. they have gone from 3.5-7'' in that time. their growth has seemed to come to a halt as of recently despite this they are always hungry and they eat like pigs often out competing some of the larger bichirs for food. don't know if they will ever reach 12'' from every thing i've read albinos max out around 8-10''

cheers

I had the same problem with my sen before. But, if he's eating and seems to be doing fine, I think you don't have to get anxious about it now. Take good care of him. Always check your water parameters that might be factor as well. I remember that back when he was younger I had him in a newly established quarantine tank so I might had some unstable params. Also, keep clover oil handy just in case (i really do hate saying that). What happened to me was when this thing was going on, I was busy with school and didn't get the chance to search for clover oil. After a day or two in distress, he died (thus, the necropsy)... I felt bad that I had let him suffer.

Anyway, I hope he'll do well. And, he looks cute! :grinno:
