Depressed Jack Dempsey!!!!

I think my male jack D is depressed. He just lost his mate of over a year a few days ago. Now he will not eat and his activity level has decreased, he hides all day. My Oscar is acting fine and all of my water levels are perfect. Is there anything I can do to get my Jack D back to normal? I really feel so bad for him :-(

Will any other fish besides another mate help? Now that his mate is already gone I would prefer to not have another breeding pair.
