im in the proccess of setting up plumbing for my tank, its drilled and has 2 holes on the bottom of the left and right side glass plate, and im gona have vertical pipes with screens as intakes. does the intake have to be at the surface or can it be submerged a couple inches?

Not sure im understanding your question. Are you asking if the verticle pipes have to be as tall as the height of the water in the actual tank portion? or are you asking if it have to be higher than the surface inside the overflow.... imo the answer to both those would be no it shouldn't matter...

im asking if they point at which the water enters the pipe has to be near the surface or it doesn't mater at what depth that point is lol i was thinking the depth wouldnt matter but just wanted someone opinion thanks

put valves below the tank to create a siphon , titrating water level above the overflow pipe to minimize noise. known as the "herbie" method. do soem research on this and you will be glad you did. GL

ive read about the herbie method a few times today but im still not sure what it is. is it when you have 2 intakes or something?

ok so having the intakes well bellow the water level will decrease noise? im guessing cuz there wont be any bubbles that make their way into it right?

Search reef central for herbie or beanimal overflow to understand better. This tou tube video should give you a better idea. Im not sure about the exact hieght of the tube height inside the overflow box but if you want to avoid the waterfall and gurgling associated with the overflow box use valves beneath the tank to regulate the flow and creat a siphon as oppossed to the durso method. I am using this method for the first time in my build but have not completed it yet, so this is all I can offer for now

Next time take the letter/ number code after the "=" in the Youtube link above (in this case it is 6Pv3u0Sa1tk) and paste it between the Youtube coding tabs. Will come out like this...
