Derp goldfish. Surgery to aid eating?

While it was done in cruelty, I've seen people remove the lips of pirhana without major complication.

I just inherited a deformed goldfish with a similar defect to this: (not my photo)

He cannot open his mouth, his lip blocks the entry of all but the tiniest food and he is clearly underweight - likely from this defect alone. I've seen fish with no lips eating fine and living well. I just wanted some feedback on whether or not y'all think removing a portion of the upper lip is a reasonable modification to allow food entry.

He's a derp, but now he's MY derp and I want to do the best I can for him...

Aww thats so sad, its adorable, no experience on fish surgery but id say go for it, its better to try than just let it starve, good luck, keep us updated
