design my 100g sump

heres where i need help. ok i am getting a 500g tank and turning my 72x18x18 100g tank into a sump. im getting a reeflo hammerhead gold, and want to run it full throttle :) overflows are on the end and sump goes under tank. i was thinking 2 filter socks on each end of sump, and flowing over into middle and just packing the middle with seachem pond matrix and ceramic media. and making a box around the spot where pump will pull from in the middle and then back into the tank. does this sound like a good idea? anyone have better ideas?

nobody? i was hoping for some input. when it comes to 5000 gph flow is the best? should i try some pothos on top? does it really do anything? should i try for a wet dry with bioballs or scrubbies or will it be too tough to get 5000 gph wet dry? HELP
 
I would not try having the pump pull from the middle of the sump. You would be duplicating the flow from each end, and balance issues may be tough to overcome.

How many overflows will you have and what size and type? If you go with filter socks make sure you design a way for overflow to stay in the sump in case they get clogged.
 
very good point, does is matter that much if they flow totally balanced?
 
2 overflows each corner of the tank and that would put them almost 8 ft from eachother im thinkin 2" drains
 
I'm in the design process of a 125 gal wet/dry of a similar design. I think there is no issue at all of both side flow at the same rate. If they do or don't they are both flowing into the center which is where it will be pumped back in the tank.. I'm copying my design off a wet dry I purchased from lifereef that has a split tower design.
 
I going to shoot for around 2500 gph (?) I have a diagram pic I will put up now I have a pic of the wet/dry as well

nice i will be sure to get pics of my setup its a lil different cuz the outsides will just be for filter socks
