Destin Florida Anyone from there? Been there?

Ok I promised my wife I would take her on Vacation this year for sure. We have decided on Destin Florida for a week the end of August.

Anyone from there? Any suggestions where to stay? Any ideas on what to do? Any place nearby I could collect some freshwater fish? Go fishing? Visit?

Any suggestions are welcome.
 
Stay at Sandestin if you want to drop some $. If you're looking for a more reasonable place, the Ramada on Okaloosa Island (Ft. Walton Beach) is pretty cool.

The beauty of the Destin/FWB area is that the beaches are beautiful and the locals are nice.

The Gulfarium is pretty cool. AJ's and McGuire's are good places to eat. If the wife likes shopping, you can send her to the Santa Rosa mall and you can got fishing...
 
I was there probably 6 years ago. Sorry, I can't remember well enough for places to go. All I remember was it was the whitest most beautiful beach. And, I caught a big Amberjack!
 
Yep. Sandestin is where its at and Bayton Wharf don't leave without checking it out, very cool atmosphere there.
 
Im about to go there now. Work sucks. :(

Also check out Fort Walton Beach and Navarre Beach. Both are less than 25 minutes from Destin but alot cheaper. Come down and spend money, after last year we need it.

Not too much freshwater fishing though. No exotics up here either.

If you like snorkeling, hit up the jetties at Destin pass. By the end of August you should see some tropical fish on the jetties. I will be honest though, October is the best time to visit for sure. The days are less humid, still plenty warm for sun bathing and the Gulf is just fantastic that time of year. The best part is that all hotels are cheaper then too!
 
ive gone there a few times. great city. Go to fudpuckers (resturant) the food there is great and they have alligators. you can pet them and get a picture if you want
