well, destroying might be too strong but i have a regular black stand and i just want it to look aged, worn, shabby or something. whats the best way to "fast-forward" time?? any ideas?
If you buy a cheap media blaster from harbor freight you can blast the wood to bring out the grain. You can also stain then sand lightly in some spots and stain darker. A blow torch and a sander works good also. It all depends on the look you are going for. I would try some stuff on scrap wood and see what suites you best.
I built a faux-antique steamer trunk one time, I used various tools in my shop to dent/scrape the wood, including flogging it with a piece of 1/2" chain. It put a lot of interesting dents/dips/scrapes in the wood, then finished it using the method described by John73738.
