I consider myself still fairly new to the world of poly keeping, purchased my first one about a year and a half ago.
My 7" Senegal Birchir seems to be throwing temper tantrums?
If my camera were functional at the moment I would post a picture of the tank to assist in your understanding of the issue.
She is having little "freak outs" periodically. I have another Birchir that does this same thing when there are loud noises or if I'm vacuuming next to the tank, but at least his behavior is explainable. To add, her "temper tantrums" are much more intense than his. She has knocked EVERYTHING over, pulled up plants, and a few days ago I found her on the floor a few feet away from the tank (still unsure how she was able to manage that)!!! When she has these freak outs there is nothing I can see/hear that could possibly trigger them. Last night I was woken up at 3am by splashing in the tank followed by a loud "CONK" as she knocked over one of her hiding places into the side of the tank.
Help?!
Could she be telling me she no longer likes her tank decor or did she bump her head too hard? What's going on with my lady, I want to help her!

If it's that violent I'd suspect you have some stray current going through your tank. Have you checked your heaters or pumps lately?

+1

Same problem with my aro one day. Luckly i had allready read threads on the issue. Stuck my hand in the tank and felt nothing. Then, i stuck my hand in the sump. And i sure felt it. I was using a second hand old heater in the sump. So make sure you check the sump as well as the tank.

just investigated, I don't feel anything? I JUST replaced the heater a few weeks ago, though. Maybe she doesn't like the new heater, haha!

she IS currently by herself in the tank (46 gal bowfront), I had her with my 4" male for a while (about 2 months) and the start of her temper tantrums involved going after my male and shaking him around like a rag doll (he seemed a bit sluggish a few days after, but has been fine since). Should I try to get her another friend?
I'm willing to do anything to make her happy again!
