this is the second thermometer that my lima shovenose had shattered...just shows you how hard and fast they strike...i saw it happen this time, he was going for a feeder that was right next to the thermometer and nailed it without gettin the fish it scared me so bad cuz i thought for sure that his nose was gonna be bleeding or broke but hes totally fine

why no external thermometers like a digital or one of those sticker ones?

Those sticker ones suck! A cheap digital from Coralife, ZooMed, Exoterra or even Radio Shack would be a good idea though.

K, now you know how easy thermometers break. Unfortunately it's only the beginning. Now make sure your heater is not in harms way. My rtc beat the heck out of his old heater and broke it. The new one is up higher in the tank and he leaves it alone.

Before installing heater/Thermometer inside the tank ,wrap it with plastic/rubber case which comes with branded things.
I am using one sticker and one inside thermometer with its rubber case.
