DEVIL EGGS!!!

Got home last night, crouched in front of the 5ft to reach under and turn on the light and heard a huge thump against the glass next to my head and looked up to find the big female red devil holding the male's face in her mouth. I thought she'd had enough and decided to teach the little psycho a lesson until i looked behind her in the log and saw the hundreds of eggs covering the inside wall! Its been about a week since i introduced the two and i hadn't even tried to turn up the temp or anything and they've already spawned!
Here's the best i could do pics wise as she flies out to attack if i get to close...

How do you tell female from male? I was told, The dots on the bottom/back fin tell its a male... and that they can start reproducing at around 3-5"? Is this all true? I have two small ones and hope they make some babiessss. Congratulations on your devil babies
