My flowerhorn is doing pretty good, not much growth in last few days but I had to move him 3 times including shipping it across coast once. I didn't deworm him when I got him and feels like I should after reading few old posts

Generally speaking, I would agree with this - but not when it comes to deworming medication. I have never heard or read of any type of worm building a resistance to any of the more common deworming agents. In fact most are quite safe to use. The biggest problem with dewormers is getting the dose correctly (not overdosing), and choosing the right medication as some only target certain forms of worms, such as Praziquntal, which is only effective against treating flatworms/tapeworms, but has no effect on various round worms. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/fa091

While I generally don't deworm all new fish, those coming from areas where I know there is a high risk factor, such as flowerhorn from Asia (where they are commonly fed live blood worms and/or tubifex) I always deworm on arrival. (with Levamisole)

I am not sure if I should look at HexShield as well, may be for 3-4 times a year.

If it’s not having symptoms then I’d wouldn’t treat.

Thank you guys. I wouldn't deworm him then.

What about feeding hex shield for 3 days in every 3-4 month? Would that be helpful or I should keep a watch and treat only when necessary?
Treat only when symptoms. Don’t want to chance any resistance.
