Hi All,

I hope I'm posting this to the right forum. I've been given a 55 gallon acrylic tank along with a cabinet and it appears that both were neglected.

The tank might have two bad spots, on the front, in the bottom joint/seam. Each spot is about 12 inches from either side. The cabinet has a 1/4" droop in the middle of it's top surface so I'm assuming that the small cracks are the effect of the tank's bottom bowing down 1/4" over time.

I've attached a photo taken from the bottom of the tank that shows the small cracks in the seam. Could you give an opinion on what I should do here? It's not leaking so maybe it's okay.

Thanks for your time,
Lawrence

Really hard to tell from the pic.

Ya, this is the only angle that shows the crack(s); the tank is actually empty and on it's side. The small cracks are in the seam where the front and bottom are joined and the photo was taken of/from the bottom looking up towards the seam - so what you're viewing is, first the bottom piece and then the seam where the front is joined to the bottom.

I think I'm going to flow some thin acrylic cement into the cracks if possible, otherwise I'll just apply a bead of thick cement (weld-on #16) along the entire front/bottom joint.

Thanks

I agree, that would be a good first step. You should be able to find some real experts in your area. Have someone take a look at it.
