After massive losses to disease a few weeks ago and a dozen 50% water changes I've decided to restock my 33 with simple tetras.

Survivors were 10 glowlites, 2 CLs, and 2 cory cats. Missing include a 9" tall angel a few tetras a pair of female bettas and a pair of ottos. All the rest of the dead were netted or vacuumed out. My trumpet snail population has exploded feeding on the dead and I began removing snails earlier this week.

Last Monday I filled a media bag of diamond blend carbon/zeolite and a second media bag of activated carbon and tossed them in my hob along with a new bag of purigen. My plan is to change the carbon every two weeks and leave the blend in until it becomes nothing more than a little extra bio filtration. Keep it running that way for a few months until everything settles down and I can properly restock the tank.

My tests were all safe yesterday. Ammonia 0, nitrite barely readable, and my nitrates are also practically zero(planted tank) but I'm not about to add anything worthy until I'm sure everything is okay. So today I brought home 6 Columbian tetras from my 75g tank at work and acclimated them to the tank to add some interest and just a few minutes ago I went ahead and scrapped my platy breeder in the basement and threw my mating platies into the tank. I'm thinking the diamond blend will greatly soften the impact the new fish have on the tank.

If I'm wrong and I have any more losses in this tank I'm going to scrap it, feed my little show community to my uncles bass and sell it.

I have so many fish and such bad luck with this one tank...

Never give up, i've had major loses a few times, but i never let them out way the good times i have sitting in front of my tank watching my fish swim around. Treat your tank with a natural antibacterial medicine and start fresh.
