My aquarium has been set up for almost a year and about 8 months with pool filter sand. I have diatom algae growth that after about two weeks requires me to clean the glass and wipe off my driftwood. I was wondering what I could do to control it - either a chemical or something like snails. Any advice would be appreciated.

otocinclus cats love diatoms. they'll only do good in a mellow tank. they're small and like company, so you want 4 or 5. mine also like hanging with the dwarf cory species.
you'd also want to add a veggie food for them to be their healthiest. mine like omega one kelp flakes and don't care for veggie rounds. a lot of people feed them zucchini with good results.

Bristle-nose plecos love the stuff too
