Well, I figured I'd join the Diatom filter craze and break out my old D1, clean it, and see if it still runs. It still runs, but I remember why I stopped using it before I set it aside.

It was leaking from where the motor housing meets the jar. I had replaced the seal gasket and it still did the same thing. Any ideas on fixing the seal.

I was thinking about running a bead of silicone where the gasket goes and make it about 1/16" higher so when the nut is tightened it will squish the silicone against the jar mouth.

Hurm, that might actually work in the short term. Duct tape is good for at least 1000 different uses. Use number 531 is keeping your gf who hates football quiet while you watch the Superbowl.

Just an FYI, for this to work, you will need to go across the mouth and around the back of her head. Then, you will need to go under her chin and over the top of her head. It's still 50/50 at best!

Had this same issue. Dont waste your time with DIY solutions/ they wont work for long- you will need to replace the seal. Kit can be purchased on line.
You will need to remove the impellor and replace the seal. To do so....
turn motor upside down Stick a small screwdriver in to lock up the fan in the motor.
Then turn the impellor counter clockwise(i think) using needle nose plyers.
Replace the impellor seal using the gasket sealeant.

Water isn't leaking from between main casting and motor. It's leaking from around the jar top.

Just teflon tape couple times around, and screw on the motor housing on to the container....that will do it.

The seal isn't made on the threads of the jar. It has a flat part that sits on top the jar with a gasket. The threaded ring screws down securing the motor/pump housing to the jar. The seal is made by the gasket contacting the top of the jar.
