diatom filter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have no experience with them, but I do know that people who use them have told me, to be very carefull as it (the filter if done right) works fantastic, but the powder is very toxic, do not breath the stuff, at minium wear a P100 respirator (particle respirator), such as a Grainger number: 4MH54. The mask is about 8-10 bucks, cost more than the standard respirator, but this is your lungs we are talking about!

You can get the mask at almost any home improvement place (Depot, Lowes, Etc...) But make sure it is a P100, as a P95, N95, R95, will leave you at risk.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is my line of work.....

Good Luck~

The hospital I work at uses N95 masks to go in to TB rooms. Are you telling me that this mask doesn't work?

I am not saying that, I would check with the Tech Support at the MFG and they will give you the most complete answer.

When I was Tech Support, I would not have recommended it, Yet a Hospital, with the high liability that they have should have and Im betting would have checked this out. But I always will defer to the MFG for 100% clairity.

a P100 is a Particlate mask.

And I can not say where I work, or I could get fired for using MFK when I am working! LOL!

N95 = "Approved for solid and liquids that do not contain Oils"

a N95 is also a registered use for Health Care and Surgical Applications. So after looking into it, your hospital is right in giving you a N95, when using a Particliate like a Diatom powder a P100 is also a good option. But after more research, and due to the size of the particle a N95 is a better option.

When the medical hazard warnings came out (in the 70s) about respiratory problems associated with diatomaceous powder, I stopped using the filters completely and switched to bag filters. They filter and polish the same as diatom filters without worrying about loose diatom powder all over the house.
