Would this combo work or are the discuss too skittish? This is what my wife would like to see in our 10ft tank.

In the long run I doubt it will work (the only combos I've see were juvies) ....dats are aggressive eaters and as they will get bigger they will stress the discuss. Since discus are not cheap this can turn into an expensive experiment....keep us posted if you decide to give it a go.
If you want more color in your dat tank I think red/gold severums are a better (hardier) option.

Definitely do severums. Similar body shape and theyre a lot more personable than my discus. I have an 8 year old green severum, hes my pride and joy.
dats are good with other carnivore, massive fishes. discuses, i would not try to comm. them.

i really dont see why it wont work out. lots of things work but people heard this and that and just say it doesnt work. one way to find out is do it. in my opinion it would work. let them be in there long enough and they will adapt and leave each other alone. i dont think competition for food will matter. depends on what you feed. the dat will need bigger pellets foods. you can feed the discus blackworms, beefheart cubes and other tiny food that the dats will have a hard time pecking on the floor or see or bother eating. technique feed if you have to. the discus will be fine as long as you have a big group of them. that way they feel safe. i say do it.
