Looks okay, check the bag for "silica." It is suppose to be dangerous for rays as it has sharp edges. Make 100% sure it is safe before putting it in - I'm sure other members will chime in soon enough.

ok thats what i did i opened it to take a picture i wanted to get peoples opinions before i put it in.

also i see nothing on the bag about silica.

I've messed around with play sand quite a bit (mostly when I was under 10 years old). For aquarium use, it is very dirty. You may find yourself rinsing it dozens of times before you're happy.

You may find it worth the extra money to just buy some Estes marine sand. It's very clean, inert, and smooth.

I bought 2 bags of that exact stuff about 3 weeks ago, it should be ok but i looked around and found pool filter sand and it is working good for me. Lowe's and home depot probably wont have pool filter sand because of this time of year but i am sure you can find it at a pool store if you want that instead. also its cheaper than regular aquarium sand and looks as nice if not better.

ok awesome thanks for your input. i believe we have a pool place nearby i will check it out tomorrow morning. Also any kind of pool sand right?

The pool filter sand will come in a few different sizes so pick which size granule you like they all are heavier than the playsand. There is also a product called zeolite which is used in sand filters and I'm not sure what that is all about.

does anyone have problems with this sand getting sucked into and clogging the filter?
