One of my silver mollys was going through a terrible time, he couldn't even swim so I put him in extremely cold water and into the freezer... Was there any better way to do this?

clove oil is what i use, in industry they use a derivative from it to anaesthetise fish for transport. raw clove oil will have the same effect. under high concentration it will kill fish however if the fish is unconscious then placed in the freezer he never knows what happened.

the best thing to do is just squish it with a rock or something. or cut the head with a chef knife it is instant if you can handle it.

Smashing is gut-wrenching but fast. Freezer method is a little slower. They will go to sleep in as little as a few minutes while losing breath. One will come before the other, usually the uncomfortable lost of consciousness first. Since your fish is small, your method is quick and not cruel. I've used this for feeders before since some of my fish are slow.

I just smash them quickly... Kinda disturbing but I don't have clove oil and it was only about 10 secs of pain...

First and only time I had to euthanize a fish I just smashed a large rock on its head. Instant death.
