Did I get a female Dovii??

I picked up a few small dovii in hopes of getting a female for my male because he's been trying (unsuccessfully) to breed with a female con. Does anyone think I got one? With my luck they're probably all males. It may be too early to tell, they're from 2.3-3.5". I put them in with my big male (with a divider) and he's watching them curiously but not showing any aggression.

Sexing dovii at a young age is next to impossible, males and females are very similar in appearance and color. As juveniles mature males will start to develop blue spots on their gill plates and the blue begin to show up in their fins. No1 looks like he is a he even the head is starting to round still require a bit of time.

Yea, way to early to tell..... But the head does seem to rounding very well... I wish I could help!

Hey everyone, I took a few pictures of them settled in their new tank. The biggest (#1) has claimed the entire divided area and kicked out the other guys to my big male's side. Here are some newer pics (same order). Don't know if it makes any difference, hope it helps.

I agree with you pingpong. The first is female. The second two are developing the black speckling and nice pattern along the dorsal and anal fins.

i reckon you blokes are right with the spots....in the fins, my girl is about 8 inches and she's got no spots in amongst her finnage......fish 2 medium and fish 1 look like the girl to me!!!
