time to trade!

3 - black skirt tetras

for

3 - dwarf cichilds of some sort....

Not a bad trade but those aren't dwarf cichlids. Those are africans.

Chad

I guess ok i just woodnt trade the albino plec, ive always liked those. however those are definetly africans.

:iagree:

oh shoot.....didn't know how i could have missed that id!

i guess i was so excited to see something other than guppies and tetras.....

well.....what have i got my hands on now....big ol cichilds....of the
african variety.....

so, these boys are gonna gain some weight...and probably eat my tetras soon.....

any generic advice for a now african c owner...

I WISH THEY WERE DWARFS!

take lots and lots of pix of your plant + drift wood while you can, get the pH up and put some rock in there so they can have some caves

Lets use PS pricing as a guideline..

1 albino pleco, $5
2 dwarf gourami, $4/ea
3 skirt tetras, $1.50/ea
=17.50

for

1 keyi, $7
1 yellow lab, $9
and 1 asst. african, $3?
=19

I'd say it's a pretty even trade.. depending on what the 3rd african was.. You still got told by letting them convince you they were dwarf cichlids.

those africans wont get Huge like an oscars or anything u cant expect maybe 6 inches max out of all 3 depending on the third one. The yellow one is a electric yellow lab, the blue striped one is a kenyi (second pic) Both are of the mbuna variety and require i higher ph of around 8. Mbuna means "rock-dwelling so give them some rock caves to hide in so they feel secure. They probably will destroy your plants. But i think it was a good trade, but i may be biased towards africans. :grinno:

ok....just added some of my old rock and put in some pvc tubes here and there for some caving....looks suitable....

question about pH.....

i have 4 neon tetras .25", 4 tiger barbs .25", 1 common @ 5" in the tank right now....

don't really have access to anything that can raise pH (don't really know what can do it besides some sort of additive) --- what will be the effect on the cichilds? death? if so....i might as well give them back.......

they seem to be fine so far......

eating A LOT.....swimming strong - coloring up nicely......what should i be looking out for as far as health issues due to pH? perhaps they are trained to live ok in my regular water pH - China super cichilds perhaps?

thanks for the help guys.....
